Public Servants of the Year Awards

The Challenge

This year's Public Servants of the Year Awards was held at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London, and was bigger than ever with over 700 attendees.  Newsreaders Felicity Barr and Sir Trevor McDonald OBE hosted the evening.

This prestigious event, organised by Public Finance in partnership with CIPFA, The Cabinet Office, The Office of Government Commerce and MORI, needed to surpass their previous events.

AVT, who produced the Awards for the fourth time, were required not only to create and stage a stunning event, but also to manage the fact that it had doubled in size over the last 3 years.

The AVT Solution

With such a large audience and venue, it was important that all attendees could not only hear and see the Awards Ceremony, but also feel part of the event.  To ensure the atmosphere reached all corners of The Great Room, AVT created a 60’ stage set, reflecting event branding, and incorporating rear projection on each side of a central stage.

The vast sound system made sure that the whole audience could clearly hear; music was carefully chosen to enhance the party atmosphere, and over 40 moving lights added to enhance the overall glamour of the evening.

AVT also provided the content, with Dave Coxall, our graphics specialist, taking responsibility for the PowerPoint™ presentation.

The venue’s sound and lighting infrastructure was supplemented by AVT with a lighting ground support erected behind the set; an impressive stage thrust was also provided.

Summarising, Robin St. Clair Jones said, “We wanted to keep the event as enjoyable as possible, and understanding the demographics of the audience was vital; it’s essential to have the right music to keep the momentum going.”

The Results

“What a night! ...The ceremony went tremendously well and the feedback we have had is astonishing.  The stage set looked spectacular and the whole room, once lit, looked stunning. ...I can’t think of another organisation I would rather have handling the [event & media] production than AVT.  Thanks for pulling out all the stops to ensure the event was another triumph”.
