AVT are the business at Cornwall Awards

The Challenge

The Cornwall Tourism Awards, organised by VisitCornwall, are now in their fifth year.  Each ceremony has seen the stakes raised in terms of what it takes to win an award and this momentum needs to be matched by the impact and energy of the Awards Ceremony.  Over 180 businesses entered the awards and the winners were announced at a Gala Evening.

A high impact event to showcase the awards was set up at one of Cornwall's most famous venues, St Mellion International Hotel Golf & Country Club, near Plymouth, with Daphne Skinnard of BBC Radio Cornwall and Bob McCreadie of Pirate FM hosting.

"We wanted to create a sense of real occasion and inject an element of theatre and drama into the evening, which needed to reflect this major step forward in recognition of the tourist industry in Cornwall and of the people who make it such a great tourist destination,"

said VisitCornwall's Vince Falco.

 

The AVT Solution

AVT South West, lead by Jon Johnson, again came up with concepts and designs for a stage set that had to look exceptional whilst also being practical enough to fit demanding space requirements.  This resulted in the team using their brand new fibre optic star cloth as the backdrop with 2 ceiling mounted 4500 ANSI lumens projectors showing images onto 2 screens. 

A similar set up had been done the year before and AVT used that experience to make the rig easier for the venue and their team.  A remote controlled camera relay was operated, picking out winners and guests and adding to the feel of interactivity to make sure this years show was a memorable evening. 

"We wanted to create a feel and an effect that would provide a great showcase for these awards, and at the same time meet the challenges of limited rehearsal time and a lack of space.  This year we decided to give added emphasis on LED lighting displays and batons, to add to the glamour "

said Jon Johnson.

The AVT team created a compelling package combining a customised stage set, dynamic lighting, high quality visuals and a presentation format offering a mix of photography, music and PowerPoint™ slides to emphasise speaker presentations, providing a true multimedia experience for the 350 guests.

The Results

This is the 5th consecutive year that I have commissioned AVT to put the Wow into the Awards and the 5th time they have done so and again excelled over the previous years.  Due to planning, effort detailing and sheer hard work, the audio visual presentations, slide transitions, musical performances and salutes never missed a cue.
