AVT pulls off the Italian Job!

The Challenge

The Director of the Institute commissioned AVT to design and develop a sophisticated online course booking wizard to enable a faster, more efficient and more user friendly mechanism for all potential Institute students. The whole website needed an audit and to be updated with a new contemporary design.

The British Institute of Florence was founded in 1917 with the aim of developing cultural understanding between the UK and Italy through the teaching of their respective languages and cultures. Today, the Institute offers a broad range of courses from Italian language to History of Art and Italian culture, in addition to providing courses in English language and culture to the local population.

The AVT Solution

In close collaboration with the Institute, AVT developed a customised wizard capable of saving cost, improving response times and cutting down on administration resource. Alex Button, AVT’s Head of Production was instrumental in the design and implementation and was delighted with the results. Alex looked at a number of other designs and having taken the best concepts from these on board he set about putting together a bespoke solution.

In a second phase of work, and following two consultancy days, AVT also developed a fresh design template for the Institute website, developing a new navigation pathway and rationalising and optimising information on the site.

The courses offered by the Institute are suitable for all age groups, from gap year and university students to those who simply want to broaden their horizons by studying in Florence. This was a big consideration in our design, as it needed to be user friendly and appeal to all, not just young students.

AVT has over 30 years extensive experience in working with membership based organisations and are thrilled to extend our area of expertise into the web design sector with this project.

The Results

Vanessa Hall-Smith, Director of the Institute was extremely happy with the outcome. There is greatly increased traffic to the website and all involved agree that the navigation and design have exceeded expectations.

The changes and booking wizard implemented by AVT have resulted in increased course bookings and thus increased revenue for the British Institute of Florence. AVT are delighted to have played our part in this and look forward to undertaking further web design and development for membership based organisations.
