AVT is the Real Deal at Cornwall Business Awards

The Challenge

AVT are proud to provide full live event production for the Cornish Tourism Awards and at the start of the year we were asked to tender for the newly launched Cornwall Business Awards. Jon Johnson, our regional manager was delighted when our proposal was accepted and got to work on helping the evening live up to expectations!

This was the first time an awards ceremony had taken place this to showcase the success of Cornish entrepreneurship and innovation as well as help position the county as a leading UK location for profitable and successful business. The Cornwall Business Awards recognised and rewarded excellence in local businesses and the key players driving Cornwall's economy.

The awards presentation evening took place in May at St Mellion International Hotel Golf & Country Club. This exclusive event was a black-tie dinner with a high profile host and an outstanding menu. Award winners were presented with a trophy by Doug Richard, firebrand and star of Dragons' Den, the popular BBC2 TV programme that finds tomorrow's entrepreneurs. The awards are organised by Cornwall Enterprise in partnership with Business Link.

The AVT Solution

AVT South West, headed up by Jon Johnson, came up with concepts and designs for a stage set that had to look exceptional but at the same time be practical enough to fit demanding space requirements. This resulted in the team using 70’ of fibre optic star cloth as the backdrop with 2 ceiling mounted 4500 ANSI lumens projectors showing images onto 2 screens. A hard flat set was uplit by colour changeable LED battens which provided a stunning backdrop.

The AVT team created a compelling package combining a customised stage set, dynamic lighting, high quality visuals and a presentation format offering a mix of photography, music and PowerPoint™ slides to emphasise speaker presentations, providing a true multimedia experience for the 300 guests.

The Results

The awards are already being dubbed as Cornwalls ‘Business Oscars’ and it was a pleasure to see a diverse range of businesses, from huge international companies to up-and-coming entrepreneurs. Cornwall Enterprise paid tribute to the sheer variety of Cornish-based companies whose creativity and determination have brought success, and contributed to the County’s growing reputation as a hotbed of business talent and innovation. AVT were thrilled to be able to contribute to this inaugural occasion and Nick Blandford, Business Enterprise Manager from Cornwall Enterprise made the following comments about the team,

However, we had lots of comments on how slickly run the audio visual side of the Cornwall Business Awards was handled.
